Hint Hint: Eat At Home
After church yesterday we had this brilliant idea to grab something to eat before heading home and taking Jon to the airport. Jon was headed out of town for a work thing and we just didn't feel like cooking. It started innocent enough. We had about 2 hours before we had to be at the airport for boarding, plenty of time to grab something and get home so he could pack and head out of town. Or so we thought...
So after talking options (and a good milkshake was one of the requirements) we head across town to the location farthest from our house because it is the BEST for the dessert option. I was worried we wouldn't have enough time (worrying is my thing) but everyone agreed that was where they wanted to go. We pull into the abandoned parking lot (it is right around noon at this point) and we see signs on the door stating "No Power" There were some peripheral lights on in the place but it definitely looked dim and empty.
We drop back to punt and go with the next choice, upon which we cannot agree for some reason. It's a tense situation as all the players are getting hangrier by the moment and the one is still going on about her milkshake. We drive back toward our side of town and pull into the 2nd stop for lunch. All is seemingly well as we walk in and we are second in line to be seated until we stand there for about 5 minutes with no acknowledgement whatsoever and it appears all of the servers are avoiding eye contact with all of the patrons waiting to be seated. I understand busy BUT we got 5 available tables that just need busing and no eye contact from a single server in the place and then the people in the front of the line say, "yeah we've been standing here awhile." Well, it's not like the service is going to get BETTER once we are seated, IF we are seated, so we decide we are leaving here also.
Third stop is us settling because we are grumpy and hungry and frustrated. We are at the restaurant closest to our house (which I was suggesting from the get go cause I was freaking out about time). We go in and are seated right away. Food comes quickly and the service was great. We order our shakes to go after we finish eating and all is good. Headed out to pay and wait for the shakes and wait for the shakes and wait for the shakes...Is anyone making the shakes? At this point, lunch has taken almost the full 2 hours and we are crunch timing. We get our shakes AFTER Jon asks for them a second time and the girl at the register is like, "shakes?? what shakes???" Jon says to me, "This whole afternoon was a comedy of errors." We get the half melted shakes, because they were in fact made and just sitting in the kitchen (grrr) and we head home.
As we are driving the mile home I said to Jon, "Do you think we should have taken the hint and just come home for lunch?" He laughs and responds with, "To think we eat out almost never and THIS is the way it went!"
Next time we will eat lunch at home.
